PRP For Hair Loss — Does It Work And Is It Safe?

Today, we will help you understand one of the most-heard hair treatments — PRP. And we will also discuss whether it actually works and whether it is safe.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is a non-surgical hair restoration treatment. A small sample of your own blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from other blood components. The resulting plasma — rich in growth factors — is then injected back into your scalp in the areas where your hair is thinning. These growth factors stimulate your dormant hair follicles, extend the active growth phase of your hair cycle, and improve hair density and thickness over time.

Does it work? Clinical studies on PRP for hair loss show meaningful improvement in hair count and thickness in most patients with early-to-moderate androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss), and it is also used as a supportive treatment after a hair transplant to improve graft survival. Results are gradual — typically visible after 3 to 4 sessions spaced a month apart, with maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months.

Is it safe? Because PRP uses your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction or transmitted infection is essentially zero. Side effects are limited to mild scalp tenderness, redness, or pinpoint bruising at the injection sites, all of which resolve within a day or two.

PRP is best for people with early-stage thinning, not advanced baldness. To find out whether PRP is the right treatment for you, book a consultation at Cozmaa Clinic.
